Kirkland Washington Wedding

Kirkland Washington Wedding - Woodmark Hotel.

Greg and I met in September of 2010 in Statistics class at The University of Washington. The twist? He was the TA, and I was a student. The class was two quarters long, and after the second quarter, I bit the bullet, and asked him out for coffee in the form of an email. He always mentions how he had his eye on me, too, throughout the duration of our class, but that's something I refuse to believe. I mean, it seems too good to be true! Anyway, eight years later, we decided to finally get married!

Our wedding took place in Kirkland, WA, at a breathtakingly beautiful boutique hotel called The Woodmark. Though simple, the decor, and other details were thoughtfully planned out, to ultimately create a day to remember.

Greg and I absolutely love cats, so it wasn't even a question as to whether we would incorporate them into our wedding or not. Throughout our venue, guests could spot our our favorite cat breeds on the table numbers, a life-size cat door stop, and chair back signs reading, "Hiss" an "Purrs". In lieu of favors, donations were also made to a local animal shelter, just north of Kirkland.

To add to the cat theme, and make it even more "us", we incorporated tropical elements, which served as a nod to our two favorite destinations to travel to- Maui, HI, and Laguna Beach, CA. Maui is just beautiful within itself, but Laguna Beach is extra-special, since it is somewhere we have vacationed to every summer for the past 8 years to visit his grandparents.

The two statement pieces of our wedding consisted of the arbor, which was inspired by an image from Pinterest, and built by Greg's dad, who is now a retired general contractor. The second piece was the seating chart. I had a vision to create something unique, and non-traditional, and came up with the idea to incorporate spray-painted copper piping, with diamond-shaped place cards to match the arbor. The stand stood tall at over 6', and had cards arranged in an ombre style, to celebrate the beautiful colors of the ocean, tying in with the tropical/California aspect of our theme.

Overall, this wedding was a labor of love. With barely enough time to plan, due to us living apart, working busy jobs, renovating our new home, and moving into that house two days before the wedding, planning always seemed like a scramble. I remember cutting and staining the table number holders with Greg's dad two days before the wedding, and Greg and his mom steaming our table linens on their back porch. The night before, my Maid of Honor and I were spray painting our seating chart holder on the balcony of our hotel room. Talk about last-minute, but it all came together to create the perfect day.
